Character Name: Song Lan/Song Zichen
Series: The Untamed
Age: Mid-Late Twenties
From When?: After he acquires the Soul Pouch containing Xiao Xingchen's soul from Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji.
Warden Justification: Why does the Admiral think your character would be useful as a warden here? What do they bring to the table? Regardless of their methods and motivations, do they have the capacity to help an inmate achieve graduation?
Song Zichen is, at his core, a good man. He has encountered tragedies - most out of his control - and yet he remains a man with a strong sense of morality. Furthermore, as a Fierce Corpse, he is strong and unlikely to be overwhelmed by a troublesome charge. In life, he sought to teach - to guide young Cultivators on the path righteousness - and circumstances denied him that opportunity. The Barge, however, makes his dream - a dream he shared with Xiao Xingchen - possible. Zichen is strict and he does have a temper, but he would be good to any inmate put under his charge (as long as they obey the rules).
He absolutely has the ability to help another through to graduation - and he would consider it his duty. Not being able to speak will be a difficult hurdle, but with the communicator, he should be able to overcome it. It's not like Song Zichen is much of a talker anyway.
Item: A scroll of parchment that reveals helpful messages to him (such as where his inmate might be).
Abilities/Powers: He is a Cultivator. Each Cultivator is taught techniques that allow him/her to fight/defend themselves/others from malicious spirits, demons and other monsters. Spells and talisman are just one of said techniques. Usually talisman/written spells are used to confine and/or imprison an evil being. Zichen, as a pupil of Cultivation, is able to bind and even exorcise evil beings (particularly spirits/demons in this case). When it comes to monsters, however, he must rely on his sword, Fuxue, to expel them/kill them completely.
Using Fuxue, additionally, he can fly for short distances on his blade.
As a Fierce Corpse, though he is not as strong as Wen Ning (the first Fierce Corpse), Zichen is faster and stronger than he was before. His swordmanship has also improved. Now that he is free from Xue Yang's control, he has regained his sense of self (though he fought Xue Yang tooth and nail for years even with the nails driven into his head to control him). As such, his skills as a Cultivator remain with him, but it's far more likely that he will rely on his strength and Fuxue if he is ever cornered or if he encounters someone in need.
Wardening Strategies and Philosophies: How will your character respond to and operate on the Barge at large? How will they view their role as warden, and how will they engage their inmate in their efforts to help them on their path to redemption? What are their wardening strengths and weaknesses likely to be? What sorts of inmates would your character pair best with, and conversely, what sorts of inmates would they not be such a good fit for?
Song Zichen will respond well to the Barge's ethics/desired outcome for each of the inmates. He is a quiet man and it takes a lot to arouse his fury. He will also be very dedicated to any inmates in his charge. He will want to see them succeed and he will only be satisfied after he sees them graduate/become wardens themselves. He is not a man who leaves tasks undone or half done. His memory is sharp and, eventually, he will be able to use his trauma to aid others. Until then, he will keep his inmates at a distance, aiding them without giving much information about himself.
His weaknesses as a warden are his Mysophobia. If his inmates need to be touched, it will be very difficult for him. Yet if they are in grave danger, he will do what he must. Furthermore, he does have a bad temper and if an inmate gets on his nerves, he is bound to be cross with them. However he would never hurt someone under his charge.
Anyone like Xue Yang would be a bad idea. Zichen is much too traumatized from Yi City. But someone with a streak of kindness would be a nice choice.
Deal: He wants his life back. He doesn't want to be a Fierce Corpse. Then he can wander the world and help Xiao Xingchen's soul to heal.
History: Here.
Sample Network Entry: 4th Wall Thread
Sample RP: The Barge creaks as if on water and yet he can see nothing but stars around them...above them. What would it be like to hop over the edge and lose himself in that darkness? Zichen stretches out a hand as if he means to grab one of the glowing orbs. He honestly wouldn't mind being burned alive by one of them either. But they are much too far for him to reach.
Instead he lifts his hand to his lips and touches them, shuddering in revulsion that he still - still - doesn't have a tongue. He tries to form sound - he misses being able to form words - but his ears hate what comes out. Even animals make more sense!
Dropping his hand back to his side, he turns and walks down the steps leading to his quarters. His dark eyes dart back and forth, looking for movement, expecting an attack, and his heart hammers in his chest until he feels sick. It isn't until Zichen is behind the shut - and locked - door of his quarters that he allows himself to sink onto his knees and press his back to a wall. His communicator rests on his bed and he eyes the device suspiciously.
Ten minutes pass. Then twenty. Zichen shifts, cold and uncomfortable, to sit on his bed and, hand shaking, he touches the communicator. What will this show him? How can it possibly help? However he knows that nothing ventured is nothing gained, so he takes a breath and begins to type.
Special Notes: Let me know if I need to clarify anything.
